Problem
"Historiography" & "Conceptualizing Racism" This term's sections of History 1103 include a variety of writing/discussion exercises and two main writing assignments: (i) a short self-reflective historiographical essay where main evaluate the utility of employing fictional films and web sources, in addition to more traditional academic research, to cultivate historical understanding of World War I, and (ii) a more traditional analytical history project/book review that explores how a scholarly conceptualization of "racism" may be used to illuminate historical events. Whereas the first paper complements our study of both the process of learning and the First World War, the goal of the second essay is to utilize an academic concept of "racism" to evaluate not only how such prejudice helped shape 20th century history but also how the refinement of academic models can enrich common sense understanding.
