How a positive influence can cause a positive impression

Assignment task: This Retrieve and Reduce activity encourages reflection on important concepts learned in class and the practice of your business writing skills. Throughout the course, you will be expected to complete four entries. These assignments are in Module 1, Module 3, Module 5, and Module 7.

Make an entry with the following points:

  • Select a key term from the lessons learned in class and briefly define it using your own words.
  • Enter a rationale for your selection.
  • Explain how this key term applies to workplace situations and provide an example.

Remember that business writing is concise, direct, and strong (Patterson, 2018). Your statement should not exceed 150 words. Follow the example below to submit your work (note the bolded sections):

Halo effects are a cognitive bias that refers to how a positive influence on a person or company can cause a positive impression on other people or companies with similar characteristics (Black, Bright, 2019). I selected Halo effect because of the multiple implications it can have in my professional and personal life. For example, I realized my comfortable and relaxed dressing style might be holding back my promotion. Because of the halo effect, a well-groomed and impeccably dressed staff often is perceived as confident in their performance capabilities. The problem lies that appearance clouds judgment of performance.

Requirements:

  • No more than 150 words.
  • Properly cited using in-text citations and references in APA format as applicable
