Every learner should have fluent reading models to support the reading context of meaning from words and texts. From the age a child is born to when they can read fluently, it is essential to have a model reader that they can listen to and follow along with. Once their reading improves, their vocabulary improves, reading comprehension follows, and they ultimately become more confident and well-rounded readers. Thus, the need to engage learners in various fluent reading models enables them to read and master the art of reading for purposeful meaning. Fluent reading models also allow learners to read complex texts. Such can limit every learner, even those with advanced reading skills; therefore, fluent reading models can advance learning needs.

Furthermore, fluency reading models like Reading Buddies make learning joyous, cultivating and providing learning with responsibility. Older students are responsible for the year to pair up with younger students and both model and listen attentively to their buddies. In addition, both students grow academically and learn more social responsibility when paired. Reading Buddies allows younger readers to see what being fluent looks like as they have a peer model demonstrating reading skills. In addition, older students develop social and emotional skills like patience and empathy as they work with their younger buddies (Wheeler, 2018). Thus, the connection to their buddies throughout the school year makes the year of learning engaging and meaningful for all learners. In addition, to reading buddies, at my school, we have parent volunteers to be mystery guest speakers to come into the classroom and read books to the younger students. Finally, this fluency model allows young learners to hear a mature voice reading to model articulation, expression, projection, and other critical skills to enhance their reading fluency habits.

Most importantly, reading specialists, aides, and other educators provide fluent reading models to students. When learners listen to good models of fluent reading, students learn how a reader's voice can help written text make sense (Texas Education Agency, 2002). Moreover, when educators effortlessly read to students with expression, they model for students how a fluent reader sounds during reading, thus helping them with their own comprehension and fluency reading capabilities.
