HOMOPOLYSACCHARIDES (= HOMOGLYCANS)
- These are complex carbohydrats that are formed by repeated condensation or polymerisation of only one type of monosaccharide monomers.
- Homopolysaccharide is Pentosan if it is polymer of pentoses or Hexosan if polymer of hexoses.
- It is further named -
Araban if made of pentose arabinose,
Xylan if made of pentose xylose,
Glucan or Glucosan formed of glucose,
Fructan or Fructosan formed of fructose,
Galactan or Galactosan is formed of galactose.
- More common homopolysaccharides are Glucosans - e.g. Starch, Glycogen, Insulin, Cellulose, Dextrin, Chitin, Hemicellulose, Mannos.
