Assessment task: Critical appraisal of research articles
Purpose: To develop skills in critically appraising two published research articles (one quantitative and the other qualitative) and to critically appraise the quality of reported information
Tutorial objectives
At the completion of this week, students should:
1. Have a better grasp of critiquing qualitative research articles.
a. Beginning with applying Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) principles.
Activity 1 - Review lecture
1. What were the key points from the lecture?
Activity 2 - Research
On your own:
1. Use the skills you learned as part of assessment 1 to start searchingfor a suitable qualitative-based research article.
a. This includes: using correct search terms and Boolean operators in several journal article databases, exporting references to EndNote and attaching associated full texts etc.
b. Then assess several exported articles using the CASP principles.
c. Decide which article you will critique for assessment 2.
