Assignment task:
Simon is seen today because he has been experiencing numbness in his legs and feet for the past several weeks. The patient has been a Type 2 diabetic for the past 7 years and uses insulin to stabilize his blood sugar levels. He states that sometimes when he gets out of bed in the morning or gets up from being seated for a length of time, he cannot feel his feet or legs and almost feels as though he will fall over. Also, late in the evening, he has a burning sensation in the bottoms of his feet. He also indicates that his glucose readings over the past few months have been somewhat uncontrolled. His glucose reading in the office is quite high as well and his disease is uncontrolled. It appears that Simon is experiencing diabetic polyneuropathy in his lower extremities. He also has a history of hypercholesterolemia and hypertension.
