• Anoximander (600 B.C.) was the first western philospher who proposed the idea that "living creatures arose from the moist element".
• Empedocles (500 B.C.) - The Greek philosopher suggested that foetus arose partially from male and partially from female semen.
• Aristotle - Founder / Father of embryology. He described the ontogenic development of chick and many other animals. • Hartsoeker - He was spermist. He compared the sperm with seeds and egg compared with soil. Seeds get nutrition from soil and grwo. Eggs provide the nutrition to embryo.
