Hinduism does not emphasize changing social circumstances

Problem: Hinduism does not emphasize changing the social circumstances into which one is born, but rather teaches that one should concentrate instead on developing one's soul and its relationship with God (Brahman). Women can do this through meditation, prayer and devotion to the gods/goddesses, and performing their duty in families headed by their husbands. Do you think this is a valid way for women to advance spiritually, or do you think it is a justification for a religious system created predominantly by males with power to keep females subservient to them in society?
