Problem
Two of the major issues facing the health care system in the United States include 1) the number of Americans without health insurance (the uninsured) and 2) the rising cost of health care. These issues, along with many others, indicate the present crisis which exists in the health care system in the US. On March 23, 2010, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), also known as Obamacare, was signed into law by President Barack Obama. This federal statute represents the most significant transformation of the health care system in the United States since the introduction of Medicare and Medicaid. The Affordable Care Act was designed to increase health insurance quality and affordability, lower the uninsured rate by expanding insurance coverage and reduce the costs of healthcare. The American Healthcare Act of 2017, passed by the House of Representatives in May 2017, proposes significant changes to the affordable care act.
