High levels of family conflict during either childhood or in the family of a young adult have been related during this course to several forms of psychopathology. For what disorders does family conflict act as a risk factor for later pathology or as a relapse-promoting factor if pathology has already developed? For each disorder, explain how it is that family conflict has its ultimate effect. That is, through what mediating processes (such as self-esteem, schema, arousal, etc.) does the conflict exert its influence on behavior that may occur much later in time?
