Having given the guidelines in the form of design specifications the designer should be given a free hand in developing the preliminary design of the product. However it during the process of design it is felt by the designer that a particular feature or characteristic cannot be achieved within the existing frame work of the design specification or other constraints the fact should be brought to the management. The management can then take one of the followings decisions to overcome the difficulty :

a. Scaling down of the required feature target.

b. Removal or modification of the constraint preventing realization of the subject feature.

c. Attempting alternative design .

d. Incorporation of other features to compensate for the feature which cannot be provided
