Assignment Task:
1. Have there been any instances at home with your family in which you have felt unsafe? A lot of people deal with abusive relationships, but some are afraid to bring it up to others. This question will help me understand if there have been instances of physical, emotional, or verbal abuse within the family that have made you feel unsafe. This is important because it helps me understand how to support a person in their family.
2. Do you think your daughter's behavior towards you is intentional? I'm asking this to understand the situation better. It's possible that your daughter doesn't realize she's causing you harm, or that you may be particularly sensitive to physical contact. Clarifying this can help determine if any abuse is taking place. Want Professional Help?

As a nurse practitioner, I always remind myself of the responsibility I have when we are receiving patients with suspected physical abuse. It's not just about clinical care; it also involves ethical and legal aspects that ensure the patient's safety, well-being, and dignity (Johnson & Fertel, 2023). In these situations, my clinical duty is to assess the patient's physical and psychological condition thoroughly and sensitively. I must create a safe and private environment for the patient to share sensitive information. I will approach the patient with empathy and without judgment, asking open-ended questions to gather information about their injuries and the circumstances under which they occurred. I will ensure that the physical examination is careful and that I document all findings with detailed notes and photographs if appropriate, always considering the patient's comfort and consent. I will use screening tools such as the Elder Abuse Suspicion Index or the Elder Abuse Vulnerability Index. These tools help identify older adults currently being abused as well as those at risk of becoming abused, which can guide the utilization of education and resources(Johnson & Fertel, 2023). Legally, I know that I must report suspected abuse to the appropriate authorities. Understanding and following local laws and regulations regarding mandatory reporting is essential. Collaboration with law enforcement and social services is necessary to ensure a coordinated response that prioritizes the patient's safety and well-being (Johnson & Fertel, 2023).
