The 8lb ball (A) is released from rest 10ft height (see figure). At the end of the travel, ball will impact a 6lb plate (B). The coefficient of restitution between the ball and the plate is known to be e=0.8. Determine the magnitude compression x in the spring after impact. Spring has the stiffness K=5lb/in. Entire slope is smooth and frictionless. Ignore the influence of ball rotation in all calculation.
Find out the magnitude of compression x by answering following questions.
1) What is the velocity of ball A right before impact?
2) What is velocity of plate B right after impact?
3) Set up a proper equation that relates states of plate B + spring (A) right after impact and (B) maximum compression .
4) Evaluate maximum compression x.
