Assignment task:
Derek is a student at the local state university. He is a full-time student and has a part-time job off campus that he drives to. In Derek's first semester his attendance was near perfect and he finished with a 3.7 gpa. However, in Derek's second semester his exam scores have been dipping. His roommate, Carl, noticed that he would just lay in bed, not doing anything. Carl asked if he was feeling ill, Derek responded that he wasn't sick, just didn't feel like going to class. In the next few months Derek dropped several of his classes and the ones he kept, he was attending with decreasing frequency. Eventually this lack of interest in doing anything permeated into other aspects of his life. He stopped going to his job and had no desire to spend time with his friends. He finished the semester with a 1.5 gpa. Over the summer he moved back in with his parents. When his parents asked him about his low grades, Derek just responded that he was not going to go back in the fall because, "there wasn't a point, the world is going to end on Columbus Day that year anyways". As the summer went on Derek's disinterest in doing anything kept decreasing to the point where he became a recluse. Derek's strange ideas about the world ending also became more prominent. Derek was spending all of his time on internet forums trying to inform people how god is going to punish all of those who are direct descendants from Christopher Columbus in a large-scale cataclysmic event. By September, Derek was completely consumed by his bizarre apocalyptic thoughts.
