Problem: In this module, we have seen some ethical legal aspects faced by the mother, newborn and family. Possibly, abortion is the most controversial issue that we face in terms of legal ethical situations in maternity nursing. Some are in favor of this practice, but many people and religions disapprove of it.
The nursing professional has the ethical and moral obligation to protect and promote life. The current dilemma lies in the right and responsibilities of nurses towards abortion versus the rights of patients who decide to abort. With the increasing legislative activity related to abortion law throughout the United States, the position of nursing is problematic in view of respecting the rights of patients and professional defense in favor of abortion.
