Assignment:
In this project, you are given the adult mortality rates from a random sample of 101 countries in the world from years 2000 and 2015. The data is disaggregated based on gender for each year.
Part 1
1. Data (attached) and study the data
2. Required Action: Based on the data set provided, produce the following output with SPSS:
a. Generate descriptive statistics for
i. Male, Female, and Both Sexes from 2000 and 2015 data.
ii. Based on the descriptive statistics, what conclusions can you make for each group? What differences do you see for each gender group?
b. Generate comparative boxplots for
i. Male data between 2000 and 2015,
ii. Female data between 2000 and 2015
iii. Both Sexes data between 2000 and 2015.
iv. Based on boxplots created, discuss about any patterns and noticeable changes among the gender mortality rates between given years.
c. Using the data from 2000, estimate the mean adult mortality rates for male, female and both sexes for the world population with 95% confidence.
d. Using the data from 2015, estimate the mean male, female and both sexes adult mortality rates for the world population with 95% confidence.
e. Estimate the mean difference (with 95% confidence) between:
i. Male adult mortality rates of 2000 and 2015
ii. Female adult mortality rates of 2000 and 2015
iii. Both sexes adult mortality rates of 2000 and 2015
iv. Discuss whether the difference is more than 30 in each case.
f. Test the hypothesis that the mean male adult mortality rates between 2000 and 2015 are different with a hypothesized mean difference of 30.
g. Test the hypothesis that the mean female adult mortality rates between 2000 and 2015 are different with a hypothesized mean difference of 30.
h. Test the hypothesis that the mean adult mortality rates for both sexes between 2000 and 2015 are different with a hypothesized mean difference of 30.
3. Create: Write a statistical report summarizing your findings from above. Include a conclusion section that explains your conclusions of this analysis with any charts and graphs.
4. Reflect: Think about how this analysis and your conclusions can be used to make decisions about the mortality rates in the world population. What do you think are some implications of this change in adult mortality ? What would be your suggestions for these implications?
