Functions of Ovary

The ovary of vertebrates performs the following functions:  

1. Production of eggs,
2. Synthesis of hormones needed for the chemical coordination of reproduction,
3. Elaboration of nutrient material (yolk) for the early stages of embryonic, development, and
4. Maintenance of pregnancy; i.e. housing nourishment and development of the young in the viviparous animals.
