functions of iron in the body:
- Iron is the major component in haemoglobin.
- It helps to carryout oxygen from lungs to the tissues.
- About 60 to 70% of Iron in the body is present in blood.
- Many other proteins involved in electron transport and respiration also contain iron as a part of their molecule.
- Iron is available in liver, meat, fish, cereals, nuts, green leafy vegetables and dried fruits.
- Deficiency of Iron causes anaemia.
