Functions and Desirable Characteristics of Pavements
Function of Pavement
A pavement is that part of a road on which vehicles travel. The pavement has the following functions:
(a) it has to structurally support the wheel loads coming on it,
(b) it distributes the load from vehicles to the soil embankment supporting it, and
(c) it drains away the surface run-off caused by rains and prevents it from entering the soil below.
