Discussion Post: Affinity Group Checkpoint- Understanding the Problem and Creating Direction
Reviewing the Introduction and Learning Objectives will orient you to this week's topics and activities.
Have you ever found yourself deeply involved in problem solving when about halfway through you realize that you have not accurately identified the true problem that you were attempting to resolve? Perhaps you had been missing some critical information, failed to consider a different angle to the issue, or mistakenly viewed a symptom of the problem as the issue to be dealt with. It is easy to get so caught up in one's own beliefs and viewpoints that it can be difficult to recognize misconceptions or faulty reasoning. For this very reason, it is important to occasionally take time to step back and consider new developments in a problem situation, as well as to periodically visit existing strategies and initiatives toward problem solving so that they can be weighed against our outcomes and assure that we are on the intended path.
You will compose a description of Accidental Diminisher profiles that might enhance your own abilities to become more of an effective Multiplier. You will explain how breaking the cycle of diminishing can impact your organization.
You will summarize your Literature Review findings and specify how the articles have informed your research. You will also devote time to fully describing the problem that you have chosen to focus on for your Capstone Project. Finally, you will draft the second Key Life Area of your Portfolio of Visions.
Learning Objectives
a) Formulate strategies/initiatives and outcomes or purpose/significance statements and research questions (based on the Capstone Project)
b) Analyze aspects of diminishers based on "Multipliers"
You will once again have the help and support of your peers by engaging in a discussion of your coursework with your Affinity Group. Remember to thoughtfully and truthfully consider other group members' work and respond with meaningful suggestions.
For Research Paper Track, your initial post should be 4-5 paragraphs.
Textbook: Wiseman, L. (2017). Multipliers: How the best leaders make everyone smarter (Rev. ed.). New York, NY: HarperCollins.
a) Chapter 2, "The Talent Manager"
b) Chapter 7, "The Accidental Diminisher"
c) Chapter 8, "Dealing with Diminishers"
Task
Post initial post consisting of the following:
The Capstone Project - Research Paper Track - Purpose/Significance, Research Questions
Consider:
Whereas introductions focus on the problem leading to the study, the purpose statement establishes the direction for the research. In fact, the purpose statement is the most important statement in an entire research study. It orients the reader to the central intent of the study, and from it, all other aspects of the research follow. In other words, the purpose statement indicates why you want to do the study and what you intend to accomplish and is the central, controlling idea in a study.
a) Identify at least one, but no more than two, research questions.
b) The research questions will guide and shape the rest of your paper.
c) Specifically connect the research questions to the problem statement by elaborating on how you think the two are related.
The response must include a reference list. Using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, double-space, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
