Insomnia and pain. A recent study looked at the relationship between insomnia and pain among parents and adolescents. A total of 259 adolescents (69 with current insomnia) and their parents (256 middle-aged adults, 78 with insomnia) were recruited for the study. For each participant, the perceived level of overall pain was determined using an average score measured on 7 pain-related items extracted from the Somatic Symptom Inventory (SSI-28). The following table summarizes the results.
