Food fads:
You may have picked up the idea from your family or friends that certain combinations of food can be dangerous for your health. For example, fish and milk or radish and milk taken together are dangerous because they result in a skin disease called leucoderma or white patches on the skin. Milk should not be taken immediately after eating curd or with fruits because it will curdle in the stomach. In fact, there is no scientific basis for such beliefs. Do you know what happens to milk in the stomach? Our stomach contains gastric juices which curdle milk before it is digested. Some people also recommend certain food combinations to cure some illnesses. Such suggestions may come from well-meaning friends, but they may not be safe to practise because the diet may lack in some essential food nutrients. At such times we should take the diet prescribed by a physician.
