Fishers for scallops on the New England coast were fishing and when the boat came in, the average weight of the scallops were supposed to be 1/36th of a pond. The ship was accused of violating the weight rule. 18 bags of scallops were scooped out, weighted and counted. The resulting weights of the 18 bagswere > 1/36th of a pound (1/39th og a pound). Because of the violations, the remaining catch was disposed of, resulting in a law suit against the Wild life for damages. Is there a better, more accurate way to sample?
