Discussion:
Meadows worked as an assistant manager at a Dollar General store. While she was ringing up an order for a customer, he became verbally abusive. After she finished ringing up the sale, the customer threw the bag, containing a can of motor oil, at Meadows, hitting her in the eye. Meadows suffered a detached retina. The trial court awarded Meadows permanent partial disability under workers' compensation for her injury. Dollar General appealed the decision, arguing that the injury did not occur in the course of employment. Do you believe that Meadows's injury occurred during the course of her employment? Why or why not? Was the trial court correct in granting her permanent partial disability, or did the appeals court overturn that decision?
