1000 word literary analysis essay on the short story by Flannery O'Connor, "A Good Man Is Hard To Find",
The question I am trying to answer is "Will the Misfit change?" I need to be able to define "what is change?" My argument is, he does change, but not much. I need help constructing a thesis out of this argument, as well as help with the essay.
1) The Misfit compares himself and his life, to that of Jesus'.
2) How the Grandmother influences The Misfit:
What she says helps the Misfit justify to himself why he kills. But it does not stop him from continuing to kill.
How the Misfit esteems the Grandmother more than the others, and that is why he can change.
3) I must also include an Opposing View; mine is:
"The Misfit cannot change because he killed the Grandmother." My commentary to refute that opposing view is , "he felt bad about killing her because the last line of the story is, "It's no real pleasure in life." This is the reason why he can change.
