Find out the impact on the business planning process

Case Scenario:

Rangimarie Kai is a non-profit organisation that was established in Gisborne in 2019 to address the overwhelming issues related to food insecurity and poverty that exist in Aotearoa New Zealand. These issues became increasingly apparent during the initial COVID-19 lockdown. Rangimarie Kai collects donations of unsold (but good quality) food from supermarkets, local vegetable growers, cafes and restaurants. This food is checked, sorted and packed for distribution at a warehouse that Rangimarie Kai leases on a yearly basis. The food and fresh produce from the warehouse are then dropped off at various food banks around Gisborne. These are run through local marae, churches, charities and schools who are well-connected in their communities. The food banks have been delighted to receive support from Rangimarie Kai, because the quantity of food they can distribute in their communities has greatly increased and they can include more fruits and vegetables in their food boxes.

The strategic plan of Rangimarie Kai includes the following key statements:

Values

Social Networks: We all need each other.

Kaitiakitanga: We must work together to reduce food waste in our society.

Compassion: Communities can only thrive when they comprise of compassionate and caring people.

Innovation: Solutions for improving food security exist all around us. We must search and develop strategies to identify and incorporate those solutions and think outside the box.

Vision

Develop, nourish and connect communities where all people are equally valued, supported and empowered to flourish.

Mission

Increase opportunities for people and organisations to share food resources with those in need. Reduce food waste in our communities and improve food security at the same time.
