Assignment task:
For your discussion, this week, choose an organization that is largely supported by hunters and describe how they both raise their funds and then use those funds for conservation. Don't use the examples given in class of the National Wild Turkey Federation or the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and choose something different than your classmates. In your discussion include some or all of the following:
- The name and history of the organization,
- How hunters (specifically) contribute to their efforts,
- What species they focus on,
- How they use the funds (habitat restoration, species research, etc),
- Current issues they are involved in,
- Any other information you wish to provide.
Remember the main purpose of this post is to discuss funding and so be thorough and specific for that part of your topic.
In your responses, what similarities do you see between these organizations and their ability to fund wildlife conservation? What are the major differences? Are you surprised by hunter involvement or what they have been able to do? Are there any you want to get involved in based on what you have learned this week? Expand the conversation by adding questions that encourage additional learning about funding for both you and your classmates.
