1. Steam is supplied, dry saturated at 40 bar to a turbine, and the condenser pressure is 0.035 bar. If the plant operates on the Rankine cycle, calculate, per kilogram of steam:

a. The work output neglecting the feed pump work

b. The work required for the feed pump

c. The heat transferred to the condenser cooling water, and the amount of cooling water required through the condenser if that temperature rise of the water is assumed to be 5.5 Kelvin.

d. The Rankine cycle efficiency

2. In a Rankine cycle with reheat, steam at 500oC expands in a high pressure turbine till it reaches the saturated vapor state. The steam is then reheated at constant pressure to 400oC, followed by an expansion in a low pressure turbine to 40oC. It is required to limit the moisture content in the steam to 15%. Find:

a. The steam inlet pressure for the high pressure turbine

b. The reheat pressure

c. The cycle efficiency

d. The net specific work output
