Assignment Instructions:
Find a current breaking news story with a summary lede from an American news source such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, etc., and answer the questions on the attached worksheet. Submit no later than 9/4 by 6:00 PM. Remember to submit as a WORD DOCUMENT, not a PDF or in PAGES.
IMPORTANT HOW-TO'S:
1) Do not choose obituaries, reviews or an op-ed. Do choose a BREAKING story, not an update or analysis of previously reported news. Be sure it has a summary lede, as instructed. If it does not, you cannot get credit for doing this assignment.
2) Avoid stories from broadcast outlets such as CNN or NBC, etc. The format is different.
3) Include a copy of the story so I can see what your answers are based on, not just the link.
4) Note: If your story does not contain most of the elements asked for, use your common sense and choose a different story so you can do the assignment. A story with no original reporting (such as no direct quotes) is not acceptable. Unsure of the terms in the questions? You're meant to look them up; do not guess. Not everything means what you think. Refer to your textbook and the PowerPoint, to be sure.
