This assignment is a college-wide state-mandated assessment.
You will select one of the following four interest groups to write a paper about their national and international role and impacts.
The main body of your paper will be developed using a series of instructor-directed prompts. Like other academic papers, include an introduction and conclusion synthesizing as best as possible, the national and international context of your chosen interest group.
The Four Interest Groups
1. The National Rifle Association
2. Greenpeace
3. International Chambers of Commerce
4. The National Organization of Women (NOW)
Main Body Prompts
Answer the following eleven prompts each with a full and complete paragraph. These prompts should form the basis for the main body of your paper.
1. Describe the organization. What is their issue and why is it important to the "greater" good?
2. Find a competing group (either a group on the opposite side of the issue or a group that is competing with them for resources) and describe them.
3. Which group is doing better to secure resources and accomplish their goal?
4. Name one situation where your group's opponent has a good point and might be winning the debate.
5. Has your chosen interest group had any significant political or policy successes nationally or globally?
6. What do they ask for from their membership?
7. What do they give their members in selective incentives to be part of their group?
8. If you were a believer in the issue your chosen group represents, would it be important to be part of this interest group?
9. What are some different issues this group faces when they operate locally with in the United States, nationally and internationally?
10. Does the group have significant separate social and political dimensions?
11. What happens to this group and it's issue if people don't get involved?
Requirements
You should write an academic research essay with an introduction, main body, and conclusion.
The paper should be a minimum of four double-spaced pages in length. Write the paper in 12-point Times New Roman font. Ensure each main body paragraph to be lengthy enough to answer each question. Proofread your paper to ensure it is (relatively) error-free. Typographical errors, especially, can distract the reader from your writing.
Your paper should include a minimum of twosources. I recommend more than two sources, as you may need to consult multiple sources to answer some of the questions. You can cite non-academic sources, but you should choose reputable sources. Cite sources internally and in a works cited page. Use MLA or another recognized (such as APA) citation style when citing sources.
As part of this research paper, you are instructed to draft and submit an outline. The outline is primarily for your benefit, and so it can be as simple as a phrase or sentence to alert you to your main argument for each paragraph. It can become elaborate, if you wish, such as summarizing each of your answers to each prompt in bullet-point fashion. My main objective for the outline is for you to think about the composition of your essay before you start writing it. Submit the outline to Canvas on the due date. Due date for the outline is listed at the end of the assignment
You will submit an online copy to Canvas and a hard copy to me. Both copies should include a title page with your name and CWID on it. Please submit both copies on the due date.
