Sports and Leisure
Most high schools in the United States offer a wide variety of sports for both boys and girls. However, the participation rate has historically been higher for boys. A random sample of high school students from across the country was obtained, and the students were asked whether they participate in a high school sport. The results are given in the following table.
a. Find a 95% confidence interval for the true proportion of boys participating in a high school sport.
b. Find a 95% confidence interval for the true proportion of girls participating in a high school sport.
c. Is there any evidence to suggest the proportion of boys and girls participating in a high school sport is different? Justify your answer.
