Also known as investor or shareholder relations, this corporate communication sub function moves against from the traditional handling of the finance or treasury department behavior of numbers toward greater care in how the numbers are really communicated to several constituencies. Financial communications involve direct communications with both huge and small investors. Public firms have financial communications professionals who offered financial statements and annual reports. This sub function also deals with privacies analysts on both the "buy" and "sell" side. These analysts are often also a direct information source for the financial media, which this sub function cultivates in conjunction with experts from the media relations field. Financial communicators must have a broad understanding of organization and exacting knowledge of finance and accounting.
