factors that effect the solubility of a

factors that effect the solubility of a solute

The solubility of a solute is effected by three factors like
1) Nature of solute
2) Nature of solvent
3) Temperature

Nature of Solute: In two separate test tubes take some water and add small amount of powdered copper sulphate in one and naphthalene in other.Copper sulphate dissolves in water and forms a blue solution. So here the solubility is more. Whereas naphthalene remains undissolved in water. So here the solubility is mostly zero. From this we can say that when the solute changes and even solvent remains constant the solubility changes.

Nature of Solvent: Take water and kerosene in equal volumes in two test - tubes and add equal amount of Naphthalene in two test tubes. Naphthalene in water remains undissolved. So here the solubility is zero. But Naphthalene dissolved in kerosene . So here the solubility is more. From this we can say that even though solute is same, if the solvent changes, solubility also changes.

Temperature: The effect of temperature can be explained as follows.

Case(I): In some cases the solubility of solute increases with the increase of temperature.

Case(II): In some cases the solubility remains same even on raise of temperature.

Case (III): In some cases the solubility decreases with the increase of temperature.
