Problem: Explore the different Islamic and Christian faiths and their use of imagery to promote their very different messages. Try to see if you can find any points of overlap or major differences. In particular I would like you to focus on one object and one building from both Islamic art and this newly developing Christian art and try to address the following questions. What role does religious art play in the larger culture? What are some of the key ideas and symbols developed? How does the structure of religious building relate to the ideals of the movement that created them? And what fundamentally separates these two cultures and what might be gained by looking at them next to each other?
