Leave a comment for this: My name is Debbie and I live in New York. I have 3 kids and currently I am disabled. I was previously employed as a teacher's aide for disabled children. I have always been interested in science as it is basically the root to everything. I hope to do well in this course and to learn as much as I possibly can. There are some similarities between Eastern and Western philosophy but there are also differences between them. Western philosophy values "empirical analysis, rationality, and logical reasoning, while the East incorporates elements of Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism to offer more mystical and spiritual interpretations of life." (2023) One example of how a topic would be approached differently by western and eastern philosophies would be dealing with medicine. Eastern philosophy would take a holistic approach whereas Western philosophy would take a reductionist approach. Reductionism likes to divide explanations of behavior into separate components, while holism likes to look at the picture as a whole. So an eastern approach would be to treat the whole person rather than just the issue at hand. (2023)
