As a social worker, how do you recognize the needs and presenting concerns of given population? Once you find out those needs and presenting concerns, how do you choose the most suitable intervention and assess that it is effective for this population and the particular concerns they face? Social workers should draw from variety of resources and consider all of biological, cultural, societal, and physical factors which might affect a client’s experience. While no intervention fits all conditions, practice models, such as the GIM, offer social workers the starting point from which they can engage, plan, assess, evaluate, implement, terminate, and follow-up with needs of their clients.
