Problem
Jasper Caspa, a 45 year old gentleman has been bought in bought by ambulance with severe, crippling right-sided pain; he was given analgesia for "10/10" pain enroute. You attend Jasper and do a brief assessment/interview prior to him seeing the doctor and note the following: he is overweight, indulges in alcohol 5 nights per week and has a diet of meat, and seafood every night. Jasper estimates he drinks up to 1L of fluid per day. In the last week he has been experiencing a persistent right sided "cramp" and a stomach ache. The doctor has provided a differential diagnosis of urinary calculi.
Medical history: diabetes, hypertension, broken ankle 5 years ago.
Family history: (Father) gout, heart disease, asthma. (Mother) diabetes, hypertension.
Jasper is further prescribed non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs) Ibuprofen 400mg. Explain your understanding of how this works in the body, specific to the diagnosis offered, to relieve the patient's symptoms.
