Homework: Leading in Times of Disaster
MacGregor Burns (1979) described how "The decision-making leader responds to unexpected events by analysis of the relevant facts and reassessment of ends and means" (p. 408). Select a disaster; this could be a natural disaster, such as a hurricane or flood, or a recent business failure caused by individuals that has made news headlines. From a strategic leadership perspective, address the following:
1) Describe the steps you would take in evaluating the decisions to be made in this situation.
2) Explore whether or not you would use prescriptive or descriptive decision making.
3) Explain your reasoning for the type of decision making you selected.
4) Evaluate the critical thinking skills you think are necessary to make this decision.
The focus here is on your ability to describe the steps you would take in the decision-making process, rather than on the actual decision you would make.
Format your homework according to the give formatting requirements:
a. The answer must be double spaced, typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
