Explain which theories are most relevant to each strategy

Discussion Post

Topic: Moral Development

Discuss parental strategies in response to moral misbehaviour, including disciplinary measures and methods used to shape and teach proper moral behaviour to children ages 6 years and under. Which of the theories of moral development discussed in this course are most relevant to those parental strategies? Explain and justify your answer.

Restrict your discussion to parents or other caregivers and children that you have had direct experience of (e.g., yourself, siblings, friends, relatives, and their caregivers-do not create fictional characters). These people may (or may not) share your cultural background so you can include cultural factors that also shape moral behaviour. Limit your discussion to one or more of the three following behavioral issues:

• Lying or any other deception by a child aged year and under.

• Aggressive behavior by such a child, including any forms of mean, violent, or cruel behavior towards other children (including teasing, mocking, shunning, hitting, pinching, kicking, taunting, name calling, bullying, bossiness, or any related behaviors.).

• Selfish behavior including stealing, greediness, refusing to share, or taking more than their fair share of food, toys, or turns.

In your discussion, be specific about the exact behaviors and the exact parental strategies used in response to each behavior. When discussing the parental strategies used, explain which theories are most relevant to each strategy and explain why you believe that particular theory can help us understand and/or justify the ways in which these parental figures dealt with the behaviours of young children under their care and direction.
