- Why do you suppose the Greeks thought that each of these particular four powers / beings was necessary at the beginning of creation: Chaos, Gaia, Tartaros, Eros?
- Explain what Hesiod meant by Chaos. How do these first beings (Chaos, Gaia, Tartaros, Eros) come to be?
- In this creation account, what seems to be "true" or "false"?
- Does this seem to you to be a good way to start the world? Why or why not?

- Why do you suppose the Greeks thought that most of their world was created by birth? (Note different kinds of births.)
- In what way is creation by birth "true to life"?
- Do you see any significance in Zeus' being hidden in a cave?
- What could the cave and the stone that Kronos swallows symbolize?
- What do you think all this stuffing, castrating, swallowing, and vomiting might symbolize?
