Problem: The Sociology of Georg Simmel
Typically, contemporary sociology professors teach (and assume) the Marxian/cynical interpretation of social life: namely, that the modern world is becoming more and more determined by poverty, violence, discrimination, close-minded bigotry and alienation.
What would Simmel say to this? Do you think he would he agree or disagree? Explain two of Simmel's ideas that suggest agreement or disagreement and (briefly) give me your thoughts on them.
