Assignment task: Social statuses influence our identity and social interactions with others. Consider the differences in how you treat friends and authority figures. For this activity, use a sociological lens to analyze the individual and societal implications of status by examining yourself or someone else in light of your or their achieved, ascribed, and master statuses. Consider how an individual may act or be treated differently when viewed by statuses tied to job, gender, or race.
In a 2- to 5-minute video, use one or two major concepts and theories and appropriate terminology from the text to describe the individual's statuses. Be sure to (1) explain each concept, theory, and term applied, (2) analyze the effect of each status on the individual's sense of self and social interactions, and (3) explain the societal implications of social statuses, such as application of stereotypes or expected roles. You must include visual aids (e.g., you can display a diagram as you give your explanation), but you are not required to appear in the video.
