Problem
• Briefly explain the four views of science and religion: Conflict, Independence, Dialogue, and Integration and discuss the difference between scientific and religious modes of thought? Is one purely objective, reasonable, neutral, and hypothetical, while the other is inherently subjective, dogmatic, and unreasonable? Or are all of these categories present, to some extent, in both science and religion?
• "Thomas Kuhn's influential book, the Structure of Scientific Revolutions, maintained that both theories and data in science are dependent on the prevailing paradigms of the scientific community. . . . With a new paradigm, the old data are reinterpreted and seen in new ways and new kinds of data are sought." (Ian Barbour, When Science Meets Religion, 25)
What does this mean? Explain the significance of Kuhn's paradigm shift in both science and religion.
