Assignment
Write at least 200 words to answer each of these four questions!
1. Role play. It is 1776 and the Declaration of Independence has been written and made public. After reading the document and looking back over events of the previous decade, explain your views on the period up to 1776 and argue why you would become a Patriot, remain a Loyalist, or stay neutral.
2. During the final decade of the colonial period, Americans lived through the Stamp Act protests, the Boston Massacre, and the publication of "Common Sense" by Thomas Paine. Explain which of these three events you consider most important in the shift towards Revolution, and why.
3. Explain the Seven Years' War (aka the French and Indian War). How did its outcome affect the balance of power in North America? Do you consider this change as good or bad for colonial history?
4. After reading the chapter, do some additional reading about a specific person, place or event related to the chapter. Tell us about the topic you chose to research for this chapter: why you chose it, what you learned, and why it is important. You can post this as text, a PowerPoint, or other format. You can link to a short YouTube video clip then explain why you chose your topic and what you learned. This is your opportunity to go beyond the text and teach the class.
