Explain the relationship between science and race we

You have two discussion questions. You may answer one or both of them. As always, remember to adhere to the discussion board posting guidelines in order to receive full credit (see "Discussion question guidelines" under Course Documents if you need a refresher).

1.) All of our readings, as well as the film, focused on the relationship between science and race. We concluded that although race is real, in that it is a real social category that has implications for people's lives, it is not a category based on biological or genetic factors. At the beginning of the semester, you defined race in your intro essay. Did this week's discussion change your mind at all about how race is defined?

2.) In our readings and film, we learned about the history of race in science, how it is created as a product of science, and how it is a factor in producing scientific knowledge. Do you think it is possible to separate racism from racial science? Why and why not? Why should we continue to do research on "race," or not? Could you identify one of the dilemmas or irony in the "to do or not to do" crossroad of race and diversity in scientific researches?
