Explain the Functions of the liver
Secretion of bile: The liver cells are able to synthesize bile. All constituents of bile are not present in the liver. Liver cells use different substances from mixed venous and arterial blood in the sinusoids.
Glycogenesis and glycogenolysis: The liver converts glucose to glycogen in the presence of insulin and changes the liver glycogen back to glucose when required. You would recall reading about glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis in the Nutritional Biochemistry Course.
