The NYT article Hate Speech or Free Speech (NYT, 11 June 2008), that you read for week, writes: "Canada, Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, South Africa, Australia and India all have laws or have signed international conventions banning hate speech. Israel and France forbid the sale of Nazi items like swastikas and flags. It is a crime to deny the Holocaust in Canada, Germany and France." Please, elaborate on this assertion and explain the main differences between Free Speech provisions in the U.S.A. as compared to other countries.
What is your informed position about this issue? Should Free Speech be protected at all costs? Why or Why not?
