Task: Explain the example situation according to a different learning or cognitive theory, and explain how this differs from the assigned theory.
Assigned theory: Kelly: Psychology of Personal Construct
Example situation: A good example of this theory is when a couple go to a OBGYN doctor's appointment for the first time and see their child on ultrasound and can find out what gender the baby is going to be. Especially when they are hoping for a certain gender. Then they find out that the baby is the opposite gender, and they must reconstruct the way that they were thinking. Since our minds were hoping for a different outcome. In which now they are not sure what their feelings should be, parts of them feels like they should be happy. While some other parts of them feels sad because things didn't work out the way that they wanted to. Another part of them feel like they can't wait to see the child when it is born and get to watch them grow up and wonder what they are going to be like. Even though they must change the plans that they had set out in their mind for that child. Such as playing football with guys instead of sitting down for a tea party. While another small part of them is scared because they don't want to fail, they want to be good parents. Even though taking care of a baby is hard work. These feelings happen at once and it hard to understand what to do with them all. Minimum word count 350.
