Explain the Energy and Power in Circuits
Electrical power dissipated in a circuit or a single circuit element can be calculated using
P = I V
where power (P) is in watts if current (I) is in amperes and voltage (V) is in volts. We can combine this with Ohm's Law to give another form.
P = I2 R = V2/R
These forms are much easier for computing the heat generated by resistors.
