You have already studied that all monosaccharides exhibit properties such as oxidation, reduction, dehydration and many others and these are used in qualitative and quantitative tests. The property of reduction is the most characteristic property of monosaccharides and forms the basis of many tests for identification and quantification of monosaccharides.
